Re: Brugmansia fertilizer

Hi all,

I just wanted to chime in to let everyone know that mine - originally cuttings from my grandma-in-law in Orange County - do splendidly on a generous handful of organic 7-5-7 pellet fertilizer mixed with in with their soil monthly during summer.  They are in pots and it's water that tends to be the limiting factor, even in shade.  I haven't had any pest problems, except snails when they find them.

Subject: Brugmansia fertilizer

Brugmansias are big fertilizer hawgs.  My brother and I grow them in pots on our decks or under shade trees to keep them out of our heinous valley and foothill sun.  I often use his method of fertilizing which is double strength Miracle-Gro every other week!  Now all you organic people don't go apoplectic on me, just get your knickers out of that twist.  That's just what it takes to keep them looking vibrant in a pot.  My biggest one I fertilize heavily with Bayer's systemic rose and flower feed,(big blue jug) and that seems to also do a good job of keeping the mites at bay that also seem to attack them in the heat.
