Re: comb your carex?

Carex tumulicola, the now maligned Berkeley sedge for one. I've mowed Carex pansa and praegracilis. Carex flagellifera, C. crinita, C. elata, C. buchananii, C. comans, C. barbarae (? spelling) are all sedges that I have cut to the ground at one time or another.

On fire? That sounds scary at best.

Which are the carex you consider fast growing enough to scalp?

I use my hands. I pull all of the dead leaves off from around the base and then run my fingers through the plant gently pulling dead leaves from between the healthy ones.

The more vigorous (fast growing) Carex can be scalped with good results. Setting them on fire might work as well.

I seem to be dealing with alot of barber shop plants these days....

Anyone comb their carex? I remember hearing somewhere that a great way to get rid of dead carex leaves is to go through the plant with a fine tooth comb. Does it work? Anything that works better? As I recall, carex don't regenerate nicely after a scalping.
