Brachychiton

Leaf shape of Brachychiton are not a reliable indication of species on their own. B. populneus CAN have three to seven lobed leaves - as can other Brachychiton. Leaf colour also varies from bright green to almost purple. This seems to vary with climate as well as natural variation within and between species. The size of leaves is some indication with B.acerifolius having larger leaves - up to about 25cm - and B.populneus being smaller - 15-20cm. Flower colour is a better guide for those trying to guess from a distance, although B.populaneus can have reddish pink - well lots of dusky pink shades - or cream/yellow flowers.
