Dear Medit gardeners,
many of you might still remember me, but I have not been a contributor of this list recently so let me introduce myself.
My name is Alessandra Vinciguerra and I am the director of Horticulture and garden manager at the Giardini La Mortella , (www.lamortella.org), in Ischia -Italy, the mediterranean subtropical gardens created by Lady Walton and her late husband, the british composer Sir William Walton.
I am also non-residential Superintendent of the gardens at the American Academy in Rome, a garden that I have restored and run for the last 16 years (www.aarome.org).
I am writing to the list because I am seeking opportunities for a short term residency in a garden abroad, for the upcoming winter. My profession does not allow me to travel during the rest of the year, as La Mortella garden is open to the public form April 1st through November 1st, therefore the winter months are the only free time I have.
I feel very much the need to get out of the garden boundaries and relate to other horticulturists, gardeners, and generally the community that moves in the gardening world. I would be very interested in getting familiar with different experiences and techniques, learning about innovations, researches, ideas; in short, I would like to deepen my personal education with the goal to apply what I learn to the gardens I run, to improve and further qualify our working condition and organization.
Our garden in Ischia has an interesting collection of mediterranean and subtropical plants and I would be really interested in becoming familiar with gardens that have similiar collections and to study their garden techniques.
I am also working on a publication about the history of our gardens that is due to come out next spring and I would appreciate the possibility to concentrate on writing in a relaxed setting, without the pressure and demands that naturally come out when I am in my working places.
I hope some of you know of a garden that runs Residency programs; of course I am not looking for a stipend or a financial support of any sort, but just for a place that would provide refined horticultural background, high level botanical information, the possibility of learning and an overall proficient human experience.
I will be very grateful for any reply to this email,
Thank you for your attention,
Best regards,
Alessandra Vinciguerra
