RE: Keeping track of things

I currently am using a spreadsheet, QuattroPro for Windows as a data base.
I hope to get Borland Paradox or Microsoft Access, relational data bases
that allow searches and open-end updating.  I will be able to either export
or cut and paste my records from the spreadsheet into the data base.  I also
create tables in WordPerfect (MS Word will work as well) that can be
exported.  They usually have various sorting utilities.  There are products
for the Macintosh program as well.

Any software product will have to work with tables, whether they are built
into word processors, spreadsheets, or data bases.  If you get one
specifically for gardening, make sure you can export or cut and paste into
your main applications.  This will allow you to do a lot more than just keep
records.  Your main task will be periodically updating your files and
deciding on how to organize your tables.

Additionally, there is shareware for finding key words in any string of any
file with some sort of text.  This is Search and Replace, available for
Windows 3.x and Win95.
