Latin American contacts

Greetings all!
My partner Rob and I are about to leave ('97/9/27) on a three month trip 
to Latin America and I'm hoping you may know some people we'd like to 
meet along the way. 
We're not looking for lodging, just local contacts through whom we can 
get a better sense of the places we will visit. Our itinerary has us 
starting out with two weeks of language study in Guanajuato, Mexico, and 
then heading south to explore Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and 
Uraguay. 
We'll both study Spanish along the way, and I hope also to take some art 
classes (perhaps woodcarving) and to learn about South American plants.
Please let us know if you can think of anyone you think we'd like to 
meet or if you have any place to commend to us to visit in the countries 
in which we will travel.
