Re: windbreaks for the Santa Clara Valley (was Re: Dodonaea viscosa)



funny how two plants from different families have certain similar
traits(cofee taste (but in different parts of the fruit), mucilaginous
layer) in regards to fruit. The coffee berry however has black(i
believe) berries when ripe however. One thing about coffee berries is
when you do try the fruit it must be ripe and if you eat the "flesh"
the coffee taste is extremely bitter (you sbasically break the skin and
suck on the fruits for the taste). I have to correct myself but again!
i said the seeds of the cofee berry looked like coffee beand but i was
wrong! im remembering that in Ft. Ord there is a tree that is related
to cofee trees and its seeds look like coffee beans. Its an exotic but
has taken up residence in a deep gully formed by erosion (they leave it
because its not spread anywhere else)
