Re: Fremontodendron germination


KK, Fremontodendron seeds  do  germinate much  better if  the  seed coat is
punctured. A nick  with  nailclippers  does the  trick. I haven't  tried
boiling  water  treatment  yet.
Paul, my  sister in  Grantham, England, had a  plant which  did  well on a
southfacing wall  for 5 or  6  years  then  suddenly  died  for no apparent
reason. A small  replacement , planted last  year, has  reached  5 ft  and
is flowering . I  think they  are  usually  considered  fairly short lived
plants over  here.My sister  doesn't know of  any other Fremontodendrons
close  by , but the  seeds of her last  plant  were  viable. I'm about to
try the new  ones.
