California poppies/preemergent

Hi,

I put a few from-the-nursery Calif. poppies in my driveway
desert garden this year, in high hopes that they will do
some re-seeding. However, I have started using a granular
preemergent in that bed--it has been quite effective in 
stifling the spurge and other weeds--but I wonder if it will
prevent the poppies from germinating.

Any thoughts?
