If you could get a plant of Lonicera hildebrandiana you would have a large,
almost evergreen, vigorous climber with huge golden yellow flowers (about 8
inches long) that have a wonderful pefume, esp. lovely early in the morning
and in the late afternoon and early evening. Ours covers a tall pergola cum
archway between two parts of the garden and I need to keep it from scaling a
very tall Gleditschia SUNBURST.

Hello Trevor

What good taste you have in climbers. I have never seen a well grown
Lonicera hildebrandiana but it is top of my list of wants.

We saw it displayed at Hampton Court Flower Show in England some three years
ago when we were displaying nearby. A small nurseryman who holds the
National Collection of Lonicera was displaying it amongst many other
Lonicera. Although it was a small specimen the flowers and scent stood out
as being remarkable. We tried to get it before we left for Crete, but no-one
at that time in England offered it. You have reminded me that it is time to
search again, now that we have an open market in Europe, maybe I could find
it for sale elsewhere.

What a shame we cannot sent scent by mail yet!!

regards Janet
