Re: Salvia Indigo Spires and ARGENTINE SKIES
Trevor ...
Forgive me, but I'm not sure what your questions were, exactly. If you
are asking about Salvia guaranitica? "Agentine Skies," I have no
experience or general knowledge regarding this plant. Same with yucca
arkansana, which I think you also were wondering about.
I have S. guaranitica "Black and Blue." Although it survived
(surprisingly) our December hard freeze, it's not performing as well
this year as last year, the first year I grew it. I think it's got a
mineral deficiency of some kind — the leaves are not the right color
green. I (and other listers) might be able to give you some answers
about S. guaranitica culture, if you ask specific questions. Richard
Dufrense is our resident salvia expert on the list. He seems to have
hundreds of salvias under his care. However, some of us other listers
can provide useful information about growing salvias in climates
different than Richard's.
Most questions about salvia culture can be answered in Betsy Clebsch's
"A Book of Salvias" (Timber Press). It is a wonderful up-to-date
reference book with lots of great color photos.
