Re: "Bargain" tree peony
Hello Sophie,
I would go for the tree peony unless you are hung up on a special named
cultivar. I have several tree peonies I have purchased over the years. I have paid
from $75 to $8.00 for mine. Some of the $8 I like better than one costing me $65.
I have one in gold blooms and wanted it so bad I paid a premium. Disappointment to
some degree for as the blooms mature the foliage covers them. I honestly have not
seen an ugly tree peony at any price.
Just remember when planting to give the blossoms a break from full sun for
best color and longevity. Also trees peony are heavier feeders than herbaceous.
dig that hole wide and deep mixing with lots of compost. Then some patience as
they are not fast growers.
