Al:

I believe this to be true as even in my zone 9 where the Bletilla's have
already come and gone with their blooms, they were very slow to establish
themselves as a 'grouping.'

Something else I have notice over time with the Bletilla is that the bloom
spikes on mine seem to be getting a bit taller each year - the first year
they bloomed right on top (almost in) the foliage - after 4 springs they are
actually rising a good 4" or so above the foliage to "begin" blooming. I've
also notice that each plant is beginning to offer a higher number of blooms.

I have mine planted in a full shade bed (raised) during the
spring/summer/fall, and during the winter (late winter) when they sprout and
bloom for me they receive full sun as they are planted under a deciduous oak
tree.
