Re: Klehm Peonies
I'm kinda disappointed that Klehm went mass-market -- and can't help
wondering how this will affect the scope and quality of their offerings.
With this increase in distribution, they surely can't be growing all of
the plants themselves.
It's been a couple of years since I ordered from them, but their
plants were good-sized and healthy, and they always sent a bonus plant
-- something out of the ordinary. All my herbaceous peonies, bearded
iris, and tetraploid daylilies are Klehm.
By the way, I have one tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa
'Hana-Kisoi'), purchased from White Flower Farm. Since it's not
herbaceous, they said not to cut it down to the ground. That was six
years ago and it is now tall and floriferous, but it's barelegged. How
should tree peonies be pruned? Does "three-year renewal" pruning work
for these?
