Well, Betsy, last July I visited friends at Cape Cod, MA. About 100
feet or so from the water, they had the healthiest hedge of Hydrangea
macrophylla something or other blooming their little heads off.
Hydrangeas grow well in containers, so if you could protect them in
winter, seems to me they'd do well for you.
