Hi Susan,

   I've had good luck with Phalaris arundinaceae var. picta [1] (ribbon
   grass) in shady spots.

   If you have a nice bright foil for this dark beauty, Ophiopogon
   planiscapus 'Nigrescens'[2] has worked great for me in shady
   areas.

   As Marge mentioned, a great number of Carex (sedges) are good for 
   shade.  I've also recently become fond of Luzula (which is a rush), 
   especially Luzula sylvatica 'Aurea' [3].
