Re: Heuchera 'Amber Waves'

Nan,

Very good point about the light. Are the new leaves looking muddy right now? Mine have hints of amber and pinkish tones to it. But I understand about the light. Even choosing house colors here can be a challenge if they are too bright. We need more muted or grayed down colors, I believe. Even a red house is better if the red is grayed down some.

I would be interested to know if your planting with opposite colors helps this. I have a feeling this plant will look great in the fall with fall colors. And it will need to be situated well or it can be an eyesore. I thought it would look great under a purple Cotinus (sp? too lazy to look it up at the moment) shrub.

Thanks for our reply it is interesting how people react to this. I know some that are absolutely falling all over themselves to get one.

funny you ask, Debra. I have a pot of amber waves on my patio that has been sitting there for almost a year. It was a gift from the grower and I've not planted it because I am not so sure I like the color. I'll go put it with some burgundy foliage plants and see if it is any better.

One interesting point... you are in a region where the light is soft and muted by the humidity in the atmosphere. I am in a region of bright, blasting light. It could be that in your light, the muddy gold color leaves look better than in my light.....
