Yes, my Tennessee form has 12 petals, occasionally 11, and the "pink form" is similar. It looked to me as if the flowers on Chris's neighbor's clump had nine or ten but, as you say, it's difficult to see from the picture. But I found a couple of plants in the wild here in PA the other day with 12 petals (and others with 9, 10 and 11). There's a long discussion on the difference between 'Muliplex' (with many petals) and 'Plena' (with just a few more than normal) in Linc Foster's book Cuttings From A Rock Garden.
