Here in Chicago, most of the daffodils are in bloom (except the late
poeticus), scilla siberica, and crocus and mini daffs (almost over due
to the extra warm weather we had last week). Vinca is in bloom. Most
tulips have buds up as well as some hyacinths. Alliums & garlic chives
are up almost 12 inches. Bleeding heart is beginning to bloom (I love
it!) Roses are leafing as are most of the spring blooming trees &
shrubs. Daylilies are 6 or more inches high and so are a few hostas.
Peonies are more than a foot high. Solomon's seal up and growing inches
a day. Clematis look like they'll bloom at least a month early. Ferns
are beginning to unfurl. Phlox, monarda, digitalis, shasta daisies &
other perennials up and almost ready to divide. Lily bulbs are popping
all over the place (a bit southwest of here in the suburb of Naperville,
my daughter's early lilies will be in bloom for Easter). An astonishing
year! At least two-three weeks early according to notes from past years.
We're having two days of rain with temps in the 60's, so that will help.
If we can just make it through the next four weeks...! Happy gardening
to you too, Sheila! Are we going to have to pay for this with extra
slugs, pests, & mildew, I wonder? They're already forecasting a
mosquito hell for the area this summer... :-(
