G'day --
I've been using Jerry Bakers mole recipe for years.
Don't do it often (not every year) - just when they are a problem.
Its very effective & doesn't take much.
The commercial castor oil products such as "Mole Med" are very expensive!!
Can't understand why.
Castor oil is very cheap from any drug store.
You can make a batch of Jerry Bakers mole recipe for under $2.00!!!!!
Also, you don't have to do your whole yard.
You only need to do a narrow strip along your property line where they come in
or are active. Once they go through that strip, they won't come back!!!!!
Years ago, I just mixed the castor oil & soap in a sprinkling can to apply it
so, believe me, I only did a strip!!
QUICK FIX MIX: Moles-Away Spray
1 tablespoon castor oil
2 tablespoons liquid dishwashing soap
6 tablespoons water
Mix the oil and soap in a blender until the mix has the consistency of shaving
cream. Add the water and blend again.
In a watering can, mix 2 tablespoons of "mole mix" with 2 gallons of water.
Sprinkle the mix over mole-infested yard and garden areas.
Apply the repellent after a rain to make sure it soaks into the soil.
Better yet, water the area before and after applying the repellent.
That way you're sure it soaks in.
Here's another I found:
In your blender, whip:
3 oz. of castor oil
3 tablespoons liquid detergent (I suppose this would work as well as
dishsoap).
Blend until frothy.
Add 8 tablespoons of water and blend again till frothy.
Using a 5 gal. Ortho hose-end sprayer, put 15 tablespoons of castor oil mix in
the jar. Fill remainder of jar with water. Attach sprayer to your hose &
spray castor oil solution to the entire lawn & garden area. Apply while
walking at a slow pace.
After you've finished spraying, set up your lawn sprinkler and water the
solution into the soil (about 20 min. to an area). Repeat when you observe new
mole activity. One or two applications per year are average. Spring is the
best time to apply as the ground is usually soft.
