It's not the same process. Florists dip the carnation flower itself into dye
to color them but with the QAL you put the stem in the dye overnight or
longer and the color is absorbed through the stem into the flower. I think I
did this once for a July 4 redc-white-and-blue-arrangement. I don't know if
the color holds for drying.
