If you do the layering thing, I found that the weeds cannot grow through
the layers -- at least the first year until all of the newspaper/cardboard
starts to decompose. However, weeds have a tendency to try to grow over
the mound, but since they'll have such a shallow foothold, they will be
extremely easy to pull up/off.
I know all about ground ivy. Most of my weeds are runners and are a bugger
to get under control! They tried to grow over my new layered bed a few
times, but were easy to yank out.
Speaking of which, I sprayed a particularly nasty clump of weeds with
Round-Up. Not only did they NOT wilt or die, they grew a little lusher!!
Is there another spray that will kill weeds better? I just cannot believe
that Round-Up did not have any affect on this stuff.
