Rich soil and fertilizer??? Guess it depends on where you live. My nastys
grow in sandy soil with no attention, no fertilizer, barely any water and
they bloom like crazy. There are areas of Southern California where
they've naturalized and in none of these places do they have rich soil,
it's usually a sandstone canyon area or a neglected lot. Of course, we
have long hot summers and mild winters. Mine started blooming in late
february and reseed themselves ever year. And if anyone should wonder, my
favorite nasturtium is "Empress of India."

Whoever asked the original question -- where do you live?
