Re: Using Roundup on brambles

Laury..Russ says
1)make sure you have the right kind of Roundup, the kind intended for brambles
and woody plants
2)Don't mix it too strong..you will just kill the top of the plant before it
goes down into the roots,
3)After the canes die back, you can leave the roots to rot in the
ground..beware when pulling out the canes as they get tough and very hard to
handle..we got a chipper for this job after hauling them to the dump ..
4)I was very cautious about where I put this sprayed chipped material but it
didn't seem to do any harm as Roundup has a pretty short life span after being sprayed
spray on a quiet..no wind..evening when no rain is expected for several days
For hard to kill, we have used direct injections of roundup into the canes..we
are both diabetics and I see this as a good way to recycle syringes. You
might ask your pharmacist for a 10 pack of DB syringes if you want to try this
next year.
Be careful around water, don't let the roundup get into any streams you might have.
Why would you plant the scourge of Native Gardeners..ivy..after all this work????
Check out what native options are available to you in your area..
