RE: L. cardinalis hardiness in UK was: Cannas plus Lobelias and Crocosmias


I have to add to the Lobelia cardinalis information, too. I have seen it
growing wild in shaded marshy ground by the side of the road here in
southern Wisconsin - zone 4 or 5, depending on the winter. The bright red
was so striking, I sort of stopped precariously on the side of the road in
the wetland to get a closer look to identify it. Our summers have many hot
and humid days, so maybe some heat is needed.

Of course, when I tried to grow it in the garden, it was no go. It needs
more wet that I can presently provide.
