Just wondering, but are you sure you don't mean horse chestnuts?
Chestnut flowers aren't terribly memorable.
The red-flowered horse chestnut has increased in popularity in these
parts over the last several years, especially as street trees. Besides
the flowers, the red-flowered species doesn't get as tall as the common
species.
