I have planted Coreopsis 'Moonbeam' a couple times in a city garden I
maintain. Each time it has not overwintered. However, I have Coreopsis
'Rosea' and 'Alba' in my home garden and they are prolific groweres.
You will not hurt your aster by cutting back. A couple of years ago I
did an experiment with 'Hello Lacy'. It grows so tall (5') so I cut one
plant back as I would a Mum and the other I left alone. They bloomed at the
same time but the one I trimmed did not flop due to its height. Much
preferred!
