this happens often with the dark red and purple daylilies - moisture
(dew, rain, watering) or temperature changes the night before opening
are the usual culprits according to the daylily pundits. I have only
seen it when the temps are really high. >>
I have no idea what the real reason is either, but I have also seen this and
it does not happen to a plant every year. Some years the flowers will be
free of the streaks. When I was an active member our resident know-all said
it was thrips. Swore it was thrips. I never saw a thrip but then I did not
use a glass and go out there at dawn.
