I have been improving the grade around my house yearly for the past
four years by adding dirt (like your hubby). I've lost several things
to what I can only describe as *crown rot* - the dirt either covered
the crown of the plant and destroyed it, or the ring of dirt around
the plant created a well for water to settle and rot the crown.
My vote is to raise them.
