Re: watering and dealing with the heat

I guess I'm a laissez-faire (maybe lazy/fair) gardener, but we haven't had
rain in Norwood (a dry spot - sometimes surrounding towns get rain and we
don't) for weeks and I'm starting to water a little with a soaker hose I drag
around. I was using a sprinkler, but it's been so hot at all hours that it
seems just too wasteful. Now I'm appreciating all the shade that I usually
complain about and I've gained a new respect for hostas which still look
amazingly good.
One little celebratory note: some years back I saw Anemonopsis
macrophylla blooming in August in the Garden in the Woods. I got a plant
from Arrowhead Alpines and it's been clinging to life for the better part of
a decade, I bet. Anyway, it's blooming for the first time!! The blossoms
are just gorgeous and the plant habit so graceful. Of course, the leaves are
a little ragged, with the drought. I'm giving it plenty of water now in
hopes that it won't decide to become monocarpic. If you want to see a photo,

That's exactly what it looks like.
