Re: strobilanthes atropurpureus


I have had this plant (same one) for two years now, in a pot. I take it in before frost and it spends the winter inside, with the other house plants. By spring it looks terrible and I prune it down to a few inches before putting it back out. New leaves
appear fairly soon. This treatment  keeps the plant fairly small (mine is about 2 ft by the end of summer). I understand they can grow fairly large if planted in the ground. Two years ago this was not a common plant in nurseries around here, but this year
I have seen it in more places and maybe I won't bother to save it over winter anymore.
