You owe JoAnn big time for that, Gene! We've had some success with
honeysuckle bushes here doing something similar. Most of what we're clearing
out is 5 feet tall and bigger, with branches 2-3 inches thick. We cut the
bush down with a chainsaw, close to the ground. Then paint the remaining
stumps with brushkiller.
