Interesting - they ought to do very well for you.  Wonder if you're
cutting them back too hard in spring?  I had one for several years
that did very nicely until I read some "expert" advice that said you
should cut them back to almost ground level every spring - so I did
and the plant responded by dying immediately.  I only lightly prune
my current one and it returns and flowers for me....moral of story,
do not believe everything you read:-)
