Yes Marge, I experienced the same sudden daeth after severe cut back. So, I
waited until growth started and then cut back to 12/18 inches which seems to
work. Maybe I'll try a little less pruning as you suggest and see if i get a
more vigorous plant. Full sun in my garden, though some years back I grew it
on the east side of the (former) house and it got a fair amount of shade and
performed quite well.
