penstemon

I have had a couple of purple flowered penstemons here in Colorado (Zone 4/5)
for last three seasons. One of them died back last year after the blooming
was over, and never
came back. The other survived the winter and bloomed this spring, but seems to
be going the way of the dead penstemon. Would anybody be able to share their
experiences/advice about this perennial? I did a little bit of deadheading of
t

Don't have an answer to the question but have to tell how much I am enjoying
my purple and red penstemon planted this spring. So impressed!! Don't know
how long they last as far as years but sure like them even if only as an
annual. The other plant I am tickled with is the tiny garlic chive. It is
just darling with its spikes and white blossoms. It would fit any perennial
border for those looking for a plant to be in front. Both of the above
border a raised bed in my garden as I cannot have anything that is not
protected from gophers.(use boxes lined with hardware cloth.)
