August is a hard month

It is always hard to find a good color border in the month of August. .
I see splashes of yellow(Black-eyed Susan's) and a light purple of Joe
Pye Weed. I need something more dynamic. The Joe Pye weed is a very
tall background in my border, but I need something else. I think I
will move a section Rudbeckia ritida 'Herbstsonne' next to the Joe Pye
Weed. I have tried to incorporate Dahlia's for summer color, but the
slugs and plants seem to get them first.

What plant in your border are you proud of in the month of August?
Is it a shrub or perennial? sun or shade?
