Re: August/campanula glomerata

I wouldn't call Campanula glomerata wonderous either, but I like it well
enough to have a good sized clump of it, in both the "blue" (more violet if
you ask me) and white varieties. Mine are planted in full sun on the north
side of the bed (USDA Zone 4) and have flowered since mid July at least-
maybe earlier but I haven't been keeping notes as well as I should have.
The bed is about 8 inches of decent topsoil on top of many feet of sand
(glacial deposits you know) resulting from the front lawn having been a hay
field for over a 100 years, but otherwise not enriched. The plants get no
supplementary watering ( and we have just been through about a month of
drought) but do have several inches of cedar mulch over the bed. I expect
I will plant a couple more clumps of glomerata next spring, since this one
has been doing well for a couple of years, but I really rather prefer
Campanula carpatica from what I've seen so far. That plant I would call
quietly wonderful.
