Do you know how deep you drainfields are - I mean below the surface of the
soil?  Think that would make some difference as to what you can grow on top
of the drainfield without creating any problems.  

I mean, if it's 10 feet, I'd think you could plant about anything, but
OTOH, if it's only 24", you may not be wise to put in trees, whose roots
can go down that far and more, although most feeder roots for most plants,
including trees, are in the upper foot or so of soil.

Also think the rate your soil drains would have some bearing on whether
watering plants overtop your leach field makes a difference.

When you had your perk test done, what was the result?  Grand perk, OK perk
or just barely passed the test?
