One thing I have learned the hard way is that some annuals do a lot better if
allowed to reseed themselves. This must be true of larkspur. It flourishes
here in my Zone 7 garden in Chattanooga, TN. and I feel real lucky now having
read about difficulty with it elsewhere. I just let it drop some seed and it
comes up all over the place , the little plants being pretty well established
by fall. Winter here dips into the teen some and occasionally single digits,
but they survive. Summers are in the 90's also. May be the part shade they
like. They get midday sun, maybe 5 hours. The soil is amended occasionally.
Although the plant get a little tall and eventually flop over in a good rain,
they soon turn up on the ends and continue to look good for a coupla months if
I deadhead. l dont know if the seeds ever get covered with soil accidentally
or not, but I doubt it.
