Does anyone have any experience with Floating Primrose Willow, Jussiaea repens
var. glabrescens (Ludwigia peploides)?
It is a perennial in the Evening Primrose family (Onagacea). It grows on the
shores of lakes and ponds and the horizontal stems grow out and float on the
water. It has shiny leaves and pretty yellow primrose flowers.
It's a native, but I have not seen in growing in the wild. It does grow in
several parks here, including Forest Park, the site of the 1904 World's Fair,
which Judy Garland immortalized in the song "Meet Me In St. Louis".
It is lovely in the parks, but it seems to be taking over a friend's small
pond. Can this plant be overly invasive? Are there ways to grow it and keep
it under control?
Should she remove it?
