If you are referring to Vitex agnus castus, I live
in 6b/7a, PNW, east of Portland, Oregon. We
get ice and wicked east winds from the
Columbia Gorge. Not much snow.
I have had this tree/shrub in my garden for
about 5 years now and love it, as do the bees.
Its fabulous for late summer color (electric
blue). Being a late bloomer, its also late to leaf
out (so don't get discouraged and think its
dead!)
I am trying to make mine more small treeish
(rather than shrubbish - branches to the
ground). Mine is about 7' tall now. Its not a
slow grower, but not super fast, either. I just
thin it and shape it. Haven't had to do much
other pruning, at this point. Has had no winter
die back here, and we had a really terrible ice
storm about 2 years ago. Merely acts
deciduous.
