Linda..I have a very similar situation here in Portland. I am looking
into putting in Alpines in this area, There is an alpine list thats full
of information, you might want to join it and read for a while while you
research the subject.
I am presently mixing alpine plants with my regular perennials while I
get the area ready..My garden, I fear, is a couple of years away
I'd be interested in what you decide to do
I am in z8 with clay soil also
