Cynthia, yesterday at Craig Bergmann's Country Nursery, I saw their
new Autumn Garden, with stands of Eupatorium 'Chocolate' (the leaves
were a dark purply-green with purple stems). These were 'at least'
6 feet tall with gorgeous masses of dusky rose lavender flower heads.
This plant spreads somewhat, but for anyone with the room (not me,
yet!),
it would be a must-have for the late summer garden.
Any of you near the eastern Illinois-Wisconsin border would enjoy a
tour of Bergmann's, I'm sure. The Autumn garden is so spectactular
it's worth a trip in itself. The nursey's stock at this time of year
is naturally less than in spring/early summer, but they still have some
great roses, grasses, shade plants, etc. I'll be happy to provide
directions for anyone interested in making the trip. I never leave
without buying plants but even more importantly, I always get new ideas
for plant combinations and garden design from their beautiful layouts.
They are open only Wed - Sat. this time of year.
