My house in on a street that runs into the NIKE world hq's and I get
heaps of runners and joggers who short cut from a large light industrial
campus, down the street and to NIKE's open to the public track that
surrounds their offices..a very scenic run..and for me, a nice place to
walk too.
I had a couple of unusual plants in my new raised bed in front this
year..cerinthe "blue kiwi"..especially causes people to stop and stare.
next spring I'm moving the 'common' perennials else where and planting
unusual stuff in front.
My large cerinthe is backed by oat grass and many folk haven't ever seen
the unusual seed heads so people also ask about that. There seems to be
a developing surge of 'meadow look' and use of grasses again and I like
to incorporate them into my perennial beds for a break in color, to back
drop a plant and because they look good all winter.
since cerinthe reseeds itself so well, I have collected and saved seeds
and hope to make some 'plant money' by selling starts off my deck
doorstep to those who are fascinated by it..but not too much..I also plan
on using several of them for under planting my roses.
I often try to be in the yard around lunch time, when there is a herd of
joggers and runners going by..but people will come knock on the door
too..especially an avid perennial gardener
Got to get those plants tagged <g>
