Unless it is crowding out other plants I would refrain from splitting it
this year. That may set it back and prevent it from blooming. Note that
there are some varieties of mums that bloom so late in the year that frost
may be getting to them before they even bud. If it doesn't flower this year
when not disturbed, I'd compost it or sen it to a relative in Virginia.
