What are the leaves like on your mystery plant? More details, please!
As far as the rudbeckias are concerned: R. fulgida has nice green leaves; R.
hirta has very coarse, hairy leaves that are prone to mildew. Frankly,
they're fairly unattractive but the flowers are so great that I leave self-
seeded plants in all over. They're quite good at self-seeding, by the way,
and show up in odd places. Also, the flowers of R. hirta are larger and show
a lot of variation in coloring between gold and brown.
Hope this is helpful.
