My favorite Gardening books are the books my Grandfather gave me. The
one I use the most is a 1936 Encyclopedia of Gardening. He told me he
paid a months salary for the book back then. The nice thing about the
Encyclopedia, is you can find the old Latin names and read about new
species which they have just introduced to the botanical world. It is
a four volume set. I think the author or publisher was Baily. Ever now
and then, I would see later version in used book stores selling for
600USD. I would ask "Why is it so high?" They replied "Only so many
were made......"
