Is this all there is to expect from a plant that takes so much room??
I am in the Fraser Valley, southwest British Columbia. We have a Joe Pye
weed planting which is about 4 or 5 years old. The plant is well
established, and planted with a buddleia and sedum spectabile. The show in
that corner has been great for the past 3 weeks and I would anticipate will
be so for another while yet. Of course, we are experiencing unusually hot
and extremely dry conditions.
Last year, however, some of the young shoots seemed not to do do well, from
early in the spring. I never quite figured out why, though I suspect there
was some rot at the base of the plant due to the wet spring. The show
last year was slightly 'under par', as well. Fewer blooms, over a shorter
period.
