Jean..

While most sources say that platycodon is propagated by seed or root
division, I think you should give a stem cutting a try in order to
propagate this interesting "sport". You really have nothing to lose.
Depending upon how long the stem is, I would cut into lengths of 3 or 4
inches, making sure that a node (place where the leaves are attached to the
stem) is at the base and top of each piece you cut (i.e. 2 nodes per
piece). On the lowest piece, where the yellow stem branches off from the
normal stem, you might include a small piece (maybe 1/4 inch) of the normal
stem. This piece is called a heel (if my memory is correct) and it is
sometimes suggested that this may help a piece of stem to root. Leave some
leaves on each piece, but you can trim them back if there is too much

I'd also use rooting hormone on all the pieces and place them is some sort
of relatively high humidity environment (I use an old aquarium), using
perlite as a rooting medium.

I'd be happy to hear if anyone has any other suggestions. Good Luck.

P.S. If this is successful, I get dibs on the purchase of the first
commercially available plants!
