RE: aphids and mandevilla/ now mealy bugs

Al, Did you have Thrips damage on anything besides Gladiolus and/or African
Violets? I had some odd streaking on the foliage of Crocosmias late in the
season after all bloom was finished. I grew 5 different cultivars in pots
and another 2 cultivars in the ground and all of them had the streaking
except one clump of C. Lucifer. I was suspicious of Thrips, but couldn't
find any. Maybe they were already gone by the time I looked?

Last year I used Azatin a neem based pesticide on whitefly in the greenhouse
and by spring there were none even on traditionally white fly prone plants
such as lantanas and tomatoes. The secret is to spray even before they
become
a problem.

I had used Marathon but even found out that I did not need to use Marathon
at
all. Anyone on the list that needs a pesticide to control thrip, the
product
Conserve is outstanding. Used it last year and it kept thrip really in
check.
